The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) parliamentary group reaffirmed its "commitment to the people, businesses, and municipalities in yet another year", according to a declaration read on behalf of the parliamentary group by its Deputy Floor Leader Yordan Tsonev during the opening of Parliament's winter session on Thursday.

He noted that MRF is constructively participating in the process of forming a Euro-Atlantic majority and identified Bulgaria's Schengen and eurozone membership as commitments for 2024.

The other priorities of Tsonev's party include:

  • raising living standards;
  • supporting municipalities and improving the conditions for doing business;
  • improving the efficiency of the judicial system (for which MRF vows to participate constructively in revising the legislation that is part of the judicial reform);
  • restoring the broken link between parties and politicians, on the one hand, and people, on the other hand;
  • working to stand by Bulgaria's commitment to be a loyal member of NATO

Tsonev said that raising people's incomes is at the heart of his party's policies and catalogued the initiatives that MRF backed last year, for raising incomes in various sectors. Apparently referring to the constitutional changes adopted in late 2023, he said that "the most important change which took place in 2023 and for which MRF deserves much credit, is restoring the constitutional model for decisions, roles and important policies in Bulgarian politics to be adopted by Parliament".
