The shrinkage of construction in Bulgaria accelerated in November 2023 on an annual basis, figures released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) show. After the construction production index edged up in October 2023, it decreased by 0.6% in November, month on month, according to preliminary and seasonally adjusted data. The calendar-adjusted data for November 2023 showed a decrease of 3.0% in construction production compared to November 2022.
In October 2023, the production index in the sector increased by 0.2% from September but declined by 1% from October 2022.
Monthly Changes
In November 2023, the construction production index, calculated from seasonally adjusted data, was below the October 2023 level. The production index of civil engineering fell by 1.5%, and the production of building construction by 0.1%. In October, civil engineering production increased by 0.3% and building construction production by 0.1%.
Annual Changes
On an annual basis in November 2023, the decrease of production in construction, calculated from calendar-adjusted data, was determined by the negative rate in civil engineering, where the drop was 6.7%, while no change was observed in building construction. In October, the decrease again came from a negative rate in civil engineering, which declined by 2.7%, whereas building construction grew by 0.3%.
