The 13th French Film Festival will take place in Sofia, Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) and Varna (on the Black Sea) between November 18 and 30. This year's edition honours film programmer Vladislav Trifonov who passed away on October 3, the organizers of the l’Institut français de Bulgarie said.

Traditionally, the Festival highlights Bulgarian premieres of the nine most successful French films of the past year and a couple of all-time favourites paying tribute to two remarkable French actors on the occasion of their jubilees. In 2023, actress Catherine Deneuve celebrates her 80th birthday and actor Gerard Depardieu turns 75th.

The Festival will open at Hall 1 of Sofia's National Palace of Culture by Jeanne du Barry, a 2023 historical drama directed by Maiwenn Le Besco. The film stars Johnny Depp, Maiwenn Le Besco, Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noemie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair, among others.

The French Film Festival is included as a panorama in the 2023 KINOMANIA Festival (November 16 - December 3, 2023).
