site.btaBulgaria's Current and Capital Account in July Has EUR 427.7 Mln Surplus

September 18 (BTA) - Bulgaria's current and capital account showed a surplus of 427.7 million euro in July 2020 against a surplus of 743.1 million euro this time last year, the central bank said Friday. The current and capital account had a surplus of 1,560.6 million euro in January-July 2020, which was 2.7 per cent of the estimated GDP and compared favourably with a 1,493.4 million euro surplus the same time last year.

The current account had a surplus of 309.6 million euro in July 2020 (against a surplus of 609.2 million euro this time last year), adding up to a surplus of 968.3 million euro in January-July or 1.7 per cent of the GDP (against a surplus of 928.1 million euro and 1.5 per cent of the GDP the same time last year).

The capital account had a surplus of 118.1 million euro in July (down from 133.9 million euro in July 2019), adding up to a surplus of 592.3 million euro in January-July 2020 and 1 per cent of the GDP (up from 565.4 million euro and 0.9 per cent of the GDP in January-July 2019).

The financial account had a deficit of 181.6 million euro in July 2020, down from a surplus of 441.3 million euro this time last year. It added up to a surplus of 1,556.5 million euro in January-July 2020 (2.7 per cent of the GDP), which is up from 1,243.7 million euro (2 per cent of the GDP) this time last year.

The trade balance showed a deficit of 10.8 million euro in July 2020, which is an improvement on the deficit of 231.3 million euro this time last year. It added up to a deficit of 548.1 million euro in January-July 2020 (1 per cent of the GDP), down from the 1,716.8 million euro deficit the same period last year.

The export of goods was worth 2,451.5 million euro in July 2020, dropping by 220.6 million euro (8.3 per cent) from July 2019. The January-July export totalled 15,517.1 million euro (27.3 per cent of the GDP), down by 1,220.5 million euro compared to the like period of 2019.

The import of goods totalled 2,462.3 million euro in July 2020, decreasing by 441 million euro (15.2 per cent) from this time last year. It added up to exports worth 16,065.2 million euro in January-July (28.3 per cent of the GDP), dropping by 2,389.2 million euro from this time last year.

The services balance showed a surplus of 321 million euro in July 2020, down from 872.8 million euro in July 2019. It added up to a surplus of 1,622.5 million euro (2.9 per cent of the GDP) in January-July 2020, down from 2565.9 million euro this time last year.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bulgaria (reported according to the directional principle) grew by 494.8 million euro (54.2 per cent) year-on-year to 1,407.4 million euro (2.5 per cent of GDP) in January- July 2020 (according to snap statistics). The July FDI amounted to 958.8 million euro, compared to 400 million euro in July 2019.
