The new school year began in the Moldovan district of Taraclia, which is predominantly populated by Bulgarians. On Friday, 3,387 students in the 1st through the 12th grade are back to their 17 schools after a three-month holiday. This is the most exciting day for 282 first graders who will make their first steps in school, Taraclia District Education Department Head Lilia Sarsaman told BTA.

At the celebrations marking the beginning of the school year, students recited poems and staged dance performances. In addition to the traditional school subjects, children in Taraclia study Bulgarian language and literature, as well as History, Culture, and Customs of the Bulgarian People.

According to an order issued by Moldova’s Education Minister Dan Perciun, the first class is devoted to the European integration of the republic.

The Ministry of the Environment has submitted a request to school administrations to ban the use of balloons at the celebrations on September 1 because they pose a threat to the environment.
