Bulgarian Students Win Five Medals at International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

Bulgarian students won one gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, which is being held in Poland, the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association said in a press release here on Saturday. The Bulgarian team competed against 260 other participants from 52 countries.

The golden medalist is Bayan Gechev of the Sofia High School of Mathematics. Lora Lukmanova of the Sofia High School of Mathematics, Vladimir Milanov of the National High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sofia and Mihail Bankov of the High School of Mathematics in Pleven won silver medals, and Konstantin Krastev of the High School of Natural Sciences in Burgas won the bronze.

The Bulgarian team was headed by Nikola Karavassilev, teacher at the First Private Mathematical High School, and Zachary Donchev of the Institute of Astronomy with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Over the years, Bulgarian students have won a total of 53 medals at International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiads – 13 gold medals, 18 silver medals and 22 bronze medals.
