Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Artan Grubi announced Tuesday that he and all ministers of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) have submitted their resignations before North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, media in the Republic of North Macedonia reported.

The resignations are conditional and will be effective the moment the opposition votes on the proposed constitutional amendments and those amendments enter into force.

In a recent Kosovo television interview, Grubi recalled that two months ago there was a meeting between PM Kovachevski and opposition VMRO-DPMNE party leader Christian Mickoski, at which Mickoski stressed that VMRO-DPMNE will vote in favour of the constitutional changes if DUI and the Albanians quit the government and if a mono-ethnic government consisted of VMRO-DPMNE and the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDUM) is formed.

"The opposition has nothing against Bulgarians being included in the preamble of the constitution, but is against Albanians being in the government and is against equality between Macedonians and Albanians", Deputy Prime Minister Grubi argued.

Grubi also said that in order for the constitutional amendments to be adopted, DUI is ready to give up on the agreement reached between DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and former SDUM leader Zoran Zaev to have an Albanian as a PM during the last hundred days of the government’s term.
