Six members of the Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) have withdrawn the first of two motions for the dismissal of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, that were expected to be considered on their merits by the SJC plenum on Thursday. Ognyan Damyanov, who was one of the six prosecutors, said on behalf of the group: "With this withdrawal, we also make a motion to terminate the proceedings in this part." None of the six would disclose their motives for the withdrawal.

The first motion was made over possible serious misconduct by Geshev in relation to actions surrounding the explosion that went off near his motorcade on May 1, 2023. The motion had been merged with a second one in relation to a statement by Geshev, in which he used the phrase "political trash" while talking about Bulgarian MPs. According to four members of the Prosecutor's Collegium of the SJC, Geshev has thus undermined the prestige of the judiciary.
