The proportion of young people living in overcrowded households in the European Union in 2021 was 26%. This means that the overcrowding rate for people aged 15 to 29 was 9 percentage points higher than the overcrowding rate for the population as a whole (17%), show the latest Eurostat data published on Wednesday on the website of the statistical agency.

Among EU member states in 2021, the highest share of young people living in overcrowded homes was recorded in Romania (60%), Bulgaria (57%), Latvia (54%), Greece (48%) and Poland (47%).

At the other end of the scale, were Cyprus and Malta (4% each), Ireland (5%), the Netherlands and Belgium (8% each).
