Following a strong public interest, Thursday saw the successful end of the application period under Stage 1 of the procedure for supporting the sustainable energy renovation of residential buildings, funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan’s Green Bulgaria Pillar. From December 20, 2023 to June 1, 2023, 152 municipal administrations submitted 3,068 project proposals to a total amount of BGN 3,972,426,084.04, far exceeding the budget available of BGN 1,129,881,600, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works reported on Thursday.

Now that the deadline for applications has passed, the project proposals will be assessed and ranked. The approved multi-family residential buildings will receive up to 100% grant aid, which they are expected to use to improve the buildings’ energy characteristics, reaching an energy efficiency class B. The procedure is aimed at reducing Bulgaria’s energy consumption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, saving 30% of primary energy for every residential building, reducing energy costs, and improving the conditions and quality of life through technological renovation and modernization of buildings.

The procedure is open to all owners of multi-family residential buildings designed before April 26, 1999.
