Bulgaria has received a second delivery of a MiG-29 aircraft engine from Poland, the Defence Ministry said on Twitter on Friday. Poland delivered the first MiG-29 engine in late March.

Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov announced the two upcoming deliveries from Poland in January.

On May 17, Stoyanov expressed hope that the two companies selected to submit initial tenders for the repair of six MiG-29 engines would do so as scheduled. The companies are TEREM HOLDING EAD and Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze Nr2 S.A. The estimated value of the procurement contract is BGN 19.2 million including VAT.

Stoyanov also said on Monday: "We are doing everything possible to keep the MiG-29 fighters flying as long as possible. That was the idea behind the procurement procedure for purchase and overhaul of engines. We have worked on the other option - a replacement platform for the fighters, but the Parliamentary Defence Committee will probably not be satisfied with the tender price."
