Bulgaria's Ambassador to the Republic of North Macedonia, Angel Angelov, and Arben Taravari, President of the Alliance for the Albanians in North Macedonia and Mayor of Gostivar, met on Tuesday.

The diplomat stressed the importance of good neighbourly relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia for the region's stability and development. For his part, Taravari noted that the Alliance for the Albanians would support amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia that include Bulgarians in its preamble, just as it had backed the negotiating framework for Skopje's accession to the EU proposed by the French EU Presidency. Ambassador Angelov welcomed this position.

The two concurred that the development of infrastructure connectivity, especially Pan-European Corridor VIII, is of strategic importance to strengthening contacts between the two countries' citizens. Angelov and Taravari reaffirmed the shared belief that both Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia belong to a united Europe.

Taravari posted on Facebook that Tuesday's meeting was part of a series of meetings with "the missions of friendly countries". Alliance for the Albanians Secretary General Krenar Lloga participated in the meeting.
