Renowned Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi will come to Sofia to present his most recent film The Perfect Number at the 27th Sofia International Film Festival, which will be held between March 16 and 31, the organizers from Art Fest said on Tuesday.
In The Perfect Number, Zanussi returns to the main themes of his directing career. The answers he gives are complex and far from obvious.
Zanussi makes expert use of the philosophy of literature, science, medicine, economics, faith and cinema to inspire reflections on morality and death. He continues to explore the human condition in the contemporary world and looks into the inner life of his characters, wondering whether successful people are able to rethink their priorities.
What matters more, success or love? The dilemma confronts the protagonists in The Perfect Number. One of them, Joachim, is approaching the end of his days. He has everything, even more than he needs. David, a young mathematics genius, is devoted to his research and teaching. His first meeting with Joachim impacts the fate of both of them and leads viewers to think about the mysterious paths of man and the passing and meaning of life.
At the 34th Trieste Film Festival, The Perfect Number received a special mention, and Zanussi won the Eastern Star Award for the bridges he has built between the East and the West over the course of his career.
