Commemorative coins issued in 2017 will go out of circulation on February 20, 2023, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) says on its website. The decision was made by the BNB Governing Council on Tuesday pursuant to Article 26 of the BNB Act.
After the coins cease to be legal tender on February 20, 2023, people will be able to exchange them at BNB teller desks at nominal value for no fee and without any limits to their amount. The exchange deadline is December 31, 2024.
Information posted on the BNB website shows that five commemorative coins were issued in 2017. They commemorate, respectively, 150 years of the construction of the Byala Bridge by the famous builder and architect Kolyu Ficheto (unit nominal value: BGN 10), the Rila Monastery (BGN 10), 140 years since the birth of writer Elin Pelin (BGN 2), Khan Tervel (BGN 10), and the Christian feast day of the Annunciation (BGN 100).
