Poll: Same Parties in Parliament if
Elections Were
Held Now

Sofia, May 19 (BTA) - If general elections were held now, the same parties would enter parliament as those in the short-lived 45th National Assembly after the April 4 elections, and all parties except for GERB would have won more seats, according to a regular independent study by Gallup International Balkan. The poll was conducted in person with the use of tablets between May 7 and 14, among 812 adult Bulgarians, and the results were made public on Wednesday.

Those who are expected to vote for sure would vote as follows: 22.8 per cent will vote for GERB, 20.1 per cent for There IS Such a People, 16.1 per cent for the Bulgarian Socialist Party,11.6 per cent for Democratic Bulgaria , 11.2 per cent for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and 5.6 per cent for Rise Up! Thugs Out!.

A total of 3.1 per cent would vote for VMRO, 2.8 per cent for Vasil Bojkov's party, 2.6 per cent for Vazrazhdane, and 1.4 per cent for Volya. Some 2.7 per cent will vote for other parties that have a lower percentage of declared electoral support, including Ataka, the National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria (NFSB), Republicans for Bulgaria, ABV, Mincho Hristov's formation, Conservative Alliance of the Right Party and others.

The survey does not reflect the possibility of most patriotic forces forming coalitions instead of running alone or forming smaller coalitions, as they did in the last elections (and failed to pass the 4 per cent barrier). VMRO, Volya, NFSB, Ataka, etc., obviously form a total result of nearly 5 per cent, although automatic summation is not always the best approach in political research, the analysts explained.

A total of 57.9 per cent of all respondents said they would certainly vote in the July 11 election. Some 16.7 per cent said that they are likely to vote, 8.3 per cent said that they are unlikely to vote. A total of 13.7 percent have decided not to vote. There are also some who could not respond. Voter turnout predictions are yet to be determined when the official voter lists are released, analysts said. LN/DT
