site.btaBulgaria's Export Contracted by 6.3% in 2020 Y/Y

September 14 (BTA) - In 2020, Bulgarian exports amounted
to 54,779.3 million leva which was 6.3 per cent less than in
2019. Matching the 2020 and 2019 figures month by month shows
that the highest growth in exports was in December (6.9 per
cent) and the most significant fall in May (19.2 per cent).  

By commodity group, the increase in export was the most
significant (35.5 per cent) for Animal  and Vegetable  Oils,  
Fats  and  Waxes. The most significant decline (54.3 per cent)
was in Mineral Fuel, Lubricants and Related Materials.

Imported goods in 2020 were worth 60,127.1 million leva (at CIF
prices), which is 8.9 per cent less than the previous year.
Analyzing the monthly data on imports in 2020  and the matching
figures for 2019, shows that the biggest increase (4.6 per cent)
 was in January and the biggest decrease in April (28.9 per
cent).
 
By commodity group, the increase of imports to Bulgaria last
year was biggest (40.4 per cent) for Animal  and  Vegetable  
Oils,  Fats  and  Waxes  and the decrease was most significant
(44 per cent) for Mineral Fuel, Lubricants and Related
Materials.

The foreign trade showed a deficit of 5,347.8 million leva for
the entire 2020.

In  2020, the export of goods from Bulgaria to the EU countries
decreased by 4.1 per cent from 2019 reaching 35,845.3 million
leva. This country's key  trading partners were Germany,
Romania, Italy, Greece, France and Belgium,  which  accounted  
for  70.2 per cent of the exports to the EU.

EU imports to Bulgaria in 2020 decreased by 9.1 per cent from
2019, reaching 36,582 million leva. The most significant imports
 were from Germany, Romania, Italy,  Greece and the Netherlands,
 which represented 58.1 per cent of all imports from the EU.

Overall, Bulgaria's trade with the EU countries in 2020 showed a
 deficit of 736.7 million leva for this country.
    
In 2020, the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries
decreased by 10.1 per cent from the previous year and added up
to 18,934 million leva.  Bulgaria's leading trading partners
were Turkey, China, the UK,  the US,  Serbia, the Republic of
North
Macedonia and Russia, all of which accounted for 54.9 per cent
of the total exports to non EU countries.
    
Imports to Bulgaria from third countries decreased by 8.5 per
cent from 2019 reaching 23,545.1 million leva. The largest
imports came from Turkey, Russia, China, Serbia and Ukraine,
which collectively accounted for 56.7 per cent of the total
imports from non EU countries. RY/LN/
