Sofia, August 12 /BTA/ - Bulgaria's president has strongly criticised the country's politicians and powerful oligarchs for relying too heavily on public funds as he vows to clean up procurement tenders for energy and infrastructure projects, the Financial Times writes in a report published on August 11.

The European Commission is investigating whether Bulgaria breached EU competition rules in awarding contracts to local and Russian construction companies in relation to South Stream, a new Russian natural-gas pipeline aimed at bypassing Ukraine, the report says.
