Kristalina Georgieva Appointed
European Commission Vice President
for Budget and Human Resources

Brussels, September 10 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) -
Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva will be Vice President of the
next European Commission and will be responsible for Budget and
Human Resources in the Commission.

The full list of members of the next European Commission was
published shortly before the Commission's President-elect,
Jean-Claude Juncker, was to unveil it formally at a news
conference on Wednesday.

Juncker described Georgieva and his other female deputies as
responsible and strong. Discussing Georgieva in particular, he
said the Bulgarian has worked infallibly as European
Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and
Crisis Response and has built a remarkable network of
international contacts.

As Vice President for Budget and Human Resources, Georgieva will
work closely with the other vice presidents and, in her area of
responsibility, will guide the work of all commissioners. She
will oversee the Commission's Directorates General for Budget,
Human Resources and Security, Translation, and Interpretation,
as well as the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), the office for
the administration and payment of individual entitlements, and
the offices for infrastructure and logistics in Brussels and
Luxembourg. She will be responsible for relations with the
European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) and the European
School of Administration (EUSA).

Georgieva thanked Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev, former
Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski and current Prime Minister
Georgi Bliznashki for her nomination for a second term in office
at the European Commission. Speaking to Bulgarian journalists
in Brussels after the new Commission team was unveiled,
Georgieva said that she and her aides sang the Bulgarian
national anthem as they watched Juncker's news conference,
because they were very happy.

Georgieva said her new portfolio shows a strong Bulgarian
commitment to sharing the responsibilities. "I will continue to
put my heart in what I do. This is a big joy, a result of our
five years of work," she said. "It is very important for the
dignity of Bulgarians to know that we can stand on an equal
footing with everyone else in Europe."

Asked how her new portfolio will be useful for Bulgaria,
Georgieva expressed her confidence that she can help the country
to deal with the greatest problem: not the problem of how to
get more money, but how to use the money better.

Bulgaria's Mina Andreeva will be one of three main spokespersons
for the next European Commission, said the Commission's
President-elect, Jean-Claude Juncker.

Most recently, Andreeva served as spokeswoman for European
Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding. Andreeva was the first and
only Bulgarian among the Commission spokespersons under
President Jose Manuel Barroso. VE
