Starts in Sofia


Sofia, September 12 (BTA) - The 2nd  "Slavic Fairy Tale"
International Cinema and TV Festival starts at the Russian
Cultural and Information Centre in Sofia on Friday, the
organizers said. It will be on until September 15 and is
dedicated to the 1,151st anniversary of the Slavic letters and
Academician Dmitry Likhachov.

Likhachov (1906-1999) was a Russian scholar, member of the
Soviet Academy of Sciences, who worked in the sphere of
Byzanthine and Slavic literature and art. His research included
the old-Bulgarian literature and art and, in particular, the
work of St Cyril and St Methodius, the Tarnovo Literary School
and its influence on Russian literature, which Likhachov
described as "second South Slavic influence".

Over 300 films and TV programmes have applied for participation
in this year's festival, including documentaries and feature
films from Bulgaria, China, Russia, France, Ukraine, Moldova,
Belarus, Macedonia and Kazakhstan. There are over 50 foreign
participants and guests, including honorary guest from France
Alexander Dolgorukiy, who is a descendent of the family of
Russian Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy.
    
The festival's motto is "For a Common Information Space of Young
 Talents in the Name of Cooperation and Consent". "Slavic Fairy
Tale" is aimed at popularizing the creative abilities and
achievements of young cinematographer from various countries and
 creating a community among them.
   
The jury comprises well-known film directors, producers and
actors. Professor Dimiter Dimitrov, Director of Sofia's Academy
for Cinema, Television and Internet Communications, is President
 of "Slavic Fairy Tale" and journalist Elena Dimitrova is the
festival's General Director.
