Appellate Court Also Refuses to Remove Central Bank Deputy Governor Gounev from Office

Sofia, September 23 (BTA) - A week after Sofia City Court
refused to remove Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Deputy Governor
Tsvetan Gounev from office, Sofia Appellate Court did the same
on Tuesday, thereby confirming the judgment passed just days
ago.

Gounev, who also heads the central bank's Banking Supervision
Department, has been investigated for official misconduct. The
prosecution claims he did not exercise control over Corpbank.
The prosecution is also investigating the siphoning of 206
million leva from Corpbank.

The prosecution wants him removed from his position so that he
could not influence witnesses.

The decision of the court is final.
