Ataka Leader Siderov: 50 Parties Enter New Parliament, Ataka Is Third After GERB, MRF
Sofia, October 6 (BTA) - According to Ataka leader Volen
Siderov, 50 parties enter the 43rd National Assembly and his
formation comes third after GERB and the Movement for Rights and
Freedoms (MRF), given its election result. Speaking at a news
conference here on Monday, he explained that most political
formations in the new Parliament are coalitions, and Ataka and
MRF are the only independent parties. He calculated the number
of parties in each coalition and their election result in
percentages.
Taking a question, Siderov said that his party's election result
is satisfactory. "I can even say that it is a victory," he
added. "We regard our formation not as a typical party but as a
structure which does a lot of work without pretending to be a
big, ruling party," the Ataka leader said. In his words, there
will come a moment when the people will come to their senses and
Ataka will become a ruling party. Siderov noted that his party
will be a united team that will play properly, regardless of the
number of MPs.
According to Siderov, a government with GERB as the leading
party and the Reformist Bloc, the Patriotic Front and Bulgaria
without Censorship as supporting formations is foreseeable but
bad. The new government foreseeable actions will be an increase
of the electricity price and the retirement age and a freezing
of incomes. Siderov commented that it will be hard to take MRF
out of power. He added that GERB and MRF have already reached an
agreement.
New elections can provide a solution in the current situation,
according to Siderov.
Taking a journalist question, he said that they are ready to
participate in talks but the issues related to Bulgaria's future
should be prioritized. There was no proper discussion of the
country's problems during the election campaign, said he.
Asked to assess the caretaker Cabinet of Prime Minister Georgi
Bliznashki, Siderov defined it as "harmful". In his view, the
Government is exceeding its powers and constitutional rights.
Asked about a solution regarding the suspicion about double
voting of Bulgarian emigrants in Turkey, Siderov said that dual
nationality should be prohibited at least for a certain period
of time. The Ataka leader recalled that he proposed mandatory
voting already within the term of the previous parliament but
then he did not get support by the other political formations.
