Bulgaria, Romania Sign Memorandum of Agreement for Surveys Focused on Two New Bridges across Danube

 Sofia/Bucharest, October 28 (BTA) - Bulgarian Transport,
Information Technology and Communications Minister Nikolina
Angelkova and Romanian Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional
Development and Public Administration Liviu Dragnea signed a
Memorandum of Agreement for conducting surveys to develop new
bridges across the Danube, Angelkova's ministry said Tuesday.

The ceremony was also attended by Romanian Prime Minister Victor
 Ponta.

The members of a joint working group which should start
preparations for the two projects, bridges at Nikopol-Turnu
Magurele and Silistra-Calarasi, will be known by the end of next
 week.

In their statements made after the signing the sides agreed that
the bridges will improve the connections between the two
countries, attract investments in the area and provide a better
 future for the people there.

The preliminary actions, including feasibility studies,
environment impact assessment and SWOT analysis of each bridge,
will be funded under the Bulgaria-Romania Cross-border
Cooperation Programme 2014-2020. Sources for financing of the
actual construction will be sought after the preparations are
finalized, but at this stage this will probably be
 public-private partnership.

Angelkova, who was paying a one-day visit to Romania, also
conferred with Romanian Minister of Transport Ioan Rus, the
sides agreeing to see the first meeting of the working group as
soon as possible. Angelkova and Rus united in the opinion that
the two countries should work in close cooperation in preparing
infrastructure projects under the Connecting Europe Facility.

Later, Angelkova also met with Romanian Minister of EU Funds
Eugen Teodorovici and discussed cooperation in preparations and
implementation of EU-funded projects on the territory of the two
 countries.
