National Assembly Chair Tsacheva
Confers with UNICEF Representative in Bulgaria
Radocaj

Sofia, November 20 (BTA) - "We are still indebted to our
children. The successful development and the future of our
society depend on our care of them at present," Bulgarian
National Assembly Chair Tsetska Tsacheva said here on Thursday
at a meeting with the UNICEF Representative in Bulgaria, Tanja
Radocaj, quoted in a parliamentary press release.

Experts and representatives of civil society working in the
field of children's rights attended the meeting, which was
occasioned by the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention of the
Rights of the Child, which is marked on November 20.

Radocaj thanked for the possibility to hold talks precisely on
this day and stressed that the Convention is a broadly
recognized instrument but, regrettably, it is not broadly
implemented, even though the countries that have ratified it are
making efforts in this direction.

UNICEF's photo exhibition "Children's Rights Have a Face and
History" is a wonderful way for children to enter Parliament,
the UNICEF official said, expressing the hope that
representatives of the National Children's Council will
frequently visit the National Assembly.

Tsacheva emphasized that the question of the rights of the child
is in the focus of Parliament's attention.

The sides discussed children's access to high-quality education
and health care, access to justice, support for families and
guaranteeing equal opportunities for development to all
Bulgarian children.

The National Assembly Chair pledged to familiarize the competent
parliamentary committees with the problems raised as early as
next week. LI/LG
