Government Approves Draft Transport
and Transport Infrastructure
Operational Programme

Sofia, November 20 (BTA) - Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski
said Thursday that the new Operational Programme (OP) Transport
and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020 has been approved by the
government at a meeting of the programme's monitoring committee.
The programme will be submitted to the European Commission.

The meeting adopted new work rules for the committee and
discussed the priority projects until 2020. Some 673 million
euro will be allocated for road and rail projects, another 400
million euro will go towards the Sofia underground, and 25
million euro will be set aside for intermodal terminals. A
separate priority axis will make available 77 million euro for
traffic management systems and improving traffic safety.

A parallel meeting of the previous monitoring committee reviewed
progress in the implementation of projects under OP Transport
2007-2013. According to Minister Moskovski, the country will
absorb another 33 per cent of the programme's budget until 2015.

The upgrade of the railway stretches Septemvri-Plovdiv,
Plovdiv-Bourgas and Dimitrovgrad-Svilengrad has been completed
at between 17 and 91 per cent, said the Minister.

Lot 1 of the Maritsa motorway and Lot 4 of the Strouma motorway
have been identified as high-risk, but according to Moskovski
the risk is manageable and the projects will be completed in
2015.

The Sofia Underground remains one of the most successful
transport projects, with two new stretches completed at 70 and
82 per cent. LI/PP
