Bulgarian Christmas Charity
Collects 2,160,000 Lv
in 2013/2014

Sofia, November 20 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Christmas charity
campaign 2013/2014 collected 2,160,000 leva thanks to hundreds
of thousands of Bulgarians, President Rosen Plevneliev said. He
presented the results of the campaign at Alexandrovska Hospital
on Thursday.

The motto of the campaign held under the auspices of the head of
State was "For fewer children with damaged eyesight and damaged
hearing".

Nearly 950,000 leva were used to support the treatment and
rehabilitation of 524 children, the largest number since the
launch of the initiative, including 81 who were born deaf at
birth and have implanted cochlear systems which have to be
maintained. Medicines worth over 220,000 leva were provided for
72 children and 347 were supported in rehab with 276,000 leva.

Over 1,200,000 leva were donated for the purchase of early
diagnostics and treatment equipment for medical establishments
across the country, and highly specialized equipment was
purchased for the university hospitals in Sofia, Stara Zagora,
Plovdiv, Pleven and Varna.

The campaign has also achieved a revision of the clinical
pathway for children with nephrotic syndrome which ensures that
they receive their drug therapy. In the last ten years, these
children have relied only on Bulgarian Christmas to provide the
medications of vital importance to them. Now these are provided
by the National Health Insurance Fund, Plevneliev said.

The head of State expressed gratitude to all participants in the
campaign and voiced hope that the next edition will be equally
successful.

Later on Thursday, Plevneliev reviewed the equipment donated to
Alexandrovska Hospital worth 88,416 leva./LI/BR
