CITUB Leader Speaks Out Against Retirement Age Increase from 2015

Sofia, December 1 (BTA) - In a BTA video interview on Monday,
Plamen Dimitrov, leader of the Confederation of Independent
Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), said that CITUB is ready to
stage protests if the retirement age is increased in 2015.

CITUB won't accept a pension reform which only envisages an
increased retirement age but one that restores the trust of the
young in the system, ensures a pension equal to at least 65% of
pre-retirement income and is coherent.

According to Dimitrov, the retirement age and contributory
service may be gradually increased from 2016, but the reform
should be agreed by all political parties including the
opposition. The CITUB leader said that he is a moderate optimist
 about increasing the minimum wage.

According to Dimitrov, Bulgaria should devise a new debt
strategy which should lay out clearly the prospects for recovery
of the energy sector, infrastructure and the railway sector.

Dimitrov says that budgetary restrictions against the backdrop
of inflation are wrong.

The CITUB leader said that a 10 per cent increase in wages is
realistic, as they lag dramatically behind labour productivity.
