ABV Leader Purvanov: ABV
Affirms Itself
as Social Corrective in Bulgarian Politics

Sofia, January 17 (BTA) - The ABV party is affirming itself as a
social corrective in Parliament and in politics as a whole,
said the party's leader and former president (2002-2012) Georgi
Purvanov here on Saturday on the occasion of the first
anniversary of ABV's restart as a political project.

Purvanov assessed the past year as mostly positive. There were
doubts that, being a young party, ABV will lose its identity
amongst the Right-wing majority, especially knowing GERB's
methods, the former president noted. According to him, some had
fears that GERB had given their partners high-risk ministries,
including the Social Policy Ministry, in order to excuse
themselves over the lack of policies and reforms. Purvanov
refrained from any categorical statements whether ABV's
government commitments were the right move, but added that there
are positive trends which give ground for self esteem.

ABV participates in GERB's coalition government with its
representative being Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin, who was also MEP between
 2009 and 2014.

Towards the end of his speech, Purvanov said that ABV stretches
its hand to all Left and Centrist parties in Bulgaria for open
dialogue, seeking joint actions and participating in the local
elections with joint candidates.

He added that his party will come out with a solid analysis on
Cabinet's first 100 days and based on that will re-confirm or
re-consider the limits of the compromises it can make. "We want
Cabinet's fate to depend on the extent to which it is doing its
job and not on the whims and desires of specific political
forces," he commented. SN/MY
