Tennis Player Novak Djokovic Wins Balkan Athlete Title for Fourth Year Running


Sofia, January 22 (BTA) - ATP No. 1 player Novak Djokovic was
chosen as the Balkan Athlete of the Year, 2014, in the 42nd
edition of the poll of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) made
public here on Thursday. This is the fourth time when Djokovic
wins the title. Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov came
sixth and is the only Bulgarian athlete in the top ten of the
poll.

A total of 39 athletes were nominated to take part in the poll,
which was joined by the national news agency of the Balkan
countries: BTA, Bulgaria, ANA-MPA, Greece, AGERPRES, Romania,
the Anatolian Agency, Turkey, TANJUG, Serbia, MINA, Montenegro,
MIA, Macedonia, HINA, Croatia, FENA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and
ATA, Albania.

The top ten in the poll are as follows:
1. Novak Djokovic (Serbia) - tennis, 91 points.
2. Marin Cilic (Croatia) - tennis, 51 pts.
3. Simona Halep (Romania) - tennis, 50 pts.
4. Sandra Perkovic (Croatia) - athletics, 30 pts.
5. Arda Turan (Turkey) - football, 27 pts.
6. Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgaria) - tennis, 24 pts.
7. Milos Teodosic (Serbia) - basketball, 23 pts.
8. Luka Modric (Croatia) - football, 20 pts.
9. Konstantinos Filippidis (Greece) - athletics, 19 pts.
10. Katarina Bulatovic (Montenegro) - handball, 18 pts.
