Specialized Prosecution Office Presses Charges against Seven of Nine Criminal Group Members

Sofia, January 26 (BTA) - The Specialized Prosecution Office
(SPO) pressed charges against seven of a total of nine members
of an organized criminal group, responsible for the killing of a
hotel and night club owner on March 24, 2014 and another one -
of a construction entrepreneur and his wife - on January 8,
2015, SPO said. Charges are about to be levelled against the
other two members, who are currently in prison serving sentences
within other cases.

Accusations have been brought against the group boss, Radoslav
Kalchev, and another of its members, in their absence as they
are still at large.

Three of the already charged group members are in custody, while
another two have been released on recognizance not to leave.

Police has established that 30,000 euro were paid for the
January 8 murder of the family. Nearly the same amount was paid
for last year's killing of the businessman.

The group, operating in the region of Varna, was involved in
drug distribution, controlled the prostitution market and had a
strong-arm team that would cut ears and fingers and break arms
and legs. The Varna group was both professionally and personally
linked to the busted group of Mila Georgieva in Sofia. The
Sofia group was detained in a police operation in Sofia on
January 14.
