GERB Floor Leader Tsvetanov Meets with National Democratic Institute Officials in Washington
Sofia, February 3 (BTA) - GERB party Floor Leader and Deputy
Chairman Tsvetan Tsvetanov had a working meeting at the National
Democratic Institute (NDI) in Washington on February 2, the
party said in a press release. Tsvetanov is in the US capital
for the annual National Prayer Breakfast with President Barack
Obama on February 5.
The guest updated NDI's Regional Director for Central and
Eastern Europe Programs Robert Benjamin and Director for
Political Party Programs Ivan Doherty on the results of last
October's parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, the formation of
the new government after the elections and the stabilizing
political effect of these events.
He noted that within the short time since the new government
took office, Bulgaria has managed to regain the political
confidence of its European and Euro-Atlantic partners. Tsvetanov
and his hosts agreed that there is a political will in Bulgaria
to make reforms, which is essential for the country and the
region.
The sides discussed matters relevant to Bulgaria and the wider
region, such as the Middle East conflict, the Syrian crisis, the
refugee situation and the threat posed by international
terrorists and militants. The NDI executives supported the
continuation of the Bulgarian reforms which promote the rule of
law, human rights and the social inclusion of minorities.
