Justice Minister Submits Proposal for Disciplinary Dismissal of Judge Vladimira Yaneva

Sofia, March 6 (BTA) - Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov has made a
proposal to the Supreme Judicial Supreme Judicial Council (SJC)
for a disciplinary proceeding against suspended President of
the Sofia City Court Vladimira Yaneva, Ivanov's Ministry said in
a press release Friday. The Minister proposes imposing the
heaviest disciplinary sanction to Yaneva, dismissal. The
proposal is prompted by a report of the Surveillance Control
Bureau vis-a-vis a recent scandal about a wiretapping operation
codenamed Worms. The report has been declassified and sent to
the Justice Ministry.

Yaneva was suspended from office two weeks ago on a proposal of
Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov after pre-trial proceedings
had been launched against her in connection with authorizing the
use of special surveillance means for 300 days in the Worms
operation. No charges have yet been pressed against Yaneva. She
meanwhile resigned as President of the Sofia City Court. The
Worms operation was revealed after Chairman of the parliamentary
Internal Security Committee Atanas Atanassov said that
protestors against the government of prime minister Plamen
Oresharski in 2013-2014 had been wiretapped. Subsequently, it
transpired that the question concerned information leakage from
the Interior Ministry for unknown purposes.

Ivanov will also propose to the SJC to consider possibilities
whereby the performance of presidents under the Special
Surveillance Means Act be subject to regular review according to
clear criteria. He also suggested conducting an information
campaign for the purposes and content of special surveillance
means to "discipline" the services which use secret means and
devices for collection of evidence.
