Bicycle Workshop Starts Donation Campaign for Disadvantaged Children

Sofia, April 20 (BTA) - A small bicycle design studio is
starting a charity campaign where people can donate bicycle
parts or old bicycles which the studio will restore and donate
to disadvantaged children in Dryanovo (Central Bulgaria) on June
1, International Children's Day, Alexander Makedonski from
1bike, who have locations in Sofia and Dryanovo, told BTA
Monday.

The studio will donate the skills and labour to restore all
types of bicycles, together with left over equipment and paint.
"We mostly need children's bikes, but any would suffice after
all, as parts can often times be used interchangeably," he said.
The town of Dryanovo is the campaign's target location, because
it is where the paint and restoration work shop is located and
the studio's associates have a sense of duty help the local
community and especially the most vulnerable part of it.

Partners in the campaign are the Drag Bicycles manufacturer, who
have pledged to donate the parts needed for the finishing
works, Makedonski said, adding that they have also provided
their stores to be used as drop-off locations for the donated
bicycles.

Members of the MOGA (I CAN) youth organization in Dryanovo will
volunteer and paint the bikes, while the local social services
will provide lists of disadvantaged children, who will be
eligible to benefit from the campaign. The aim is to reach
children with foster parents, or those from poor families who
can not afford a bicycle. "We will try to make June 1 a little
happier for these children," Makedonski said.
