Three Regional Centres Increase Population in 2014
Varna, May 15 (BTA) - Three regional centres increased the
number of their inhabitants last year: Varna - by 130 people,
Plovdiv - by 526 people and Sofia -
by 6,990 people, according to demographic data as at December
31, 2014. Of a total of 257 Bulgarian towns, only 30 increased
their population during the past year.
Only one town, Madzharovo, Haskovo Region, did not report a
change of its population of 618 people compared to the previous
year. In the remaining 226 towns, the population decreased more
or less tangibly.
Last year, the most considerable increase of the population was
seen in Sofia. The number of inhabitants increased by 6,990
inhabitants up to 1,228,282 people, which compared to an
increase by 8,357 people during the previous year. The other
regional centres, where the population increased were Varna - by
130 people and Plovdiv - by 526 people.
The towns with an increased population are located in a total of
15 regions. Bourgas Regional Centre has the highest number of
such towns. These are Kableshkovo, Kiten, Nessebur, Obzor,
Pomorie, Primorsko, Sveti Vlas, Sozopol and Chernomorets.
The towns, which report a drop of the population are: Vratsa -
by 1,254 people, Pleven - 1,144 people, Pernik - 1,135 people
and Haskovo - 1,007 people.
There are four Bulgarian towns with a population of less than
1,000 people: Melnik with 209 people, Madzharovo - 618 people,
Pliska - 877 people and Kiten - 937 people.
