No Modern State without Modernized Interior Ministry - Minister Buchvarova

Sofia, July 5 (BTA) - Addressing a ceremony that marked the
professional holiday of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry Sunday,
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova
said there can not be a modern State without a modernized
Interior Ministry.

She believes that through its work the Interior Ministry will
convince the skeptics that things are going in the right
direction in this country. "Our responsibility is huge, because
our behaviour forms the sense of justice," Buchvarova, who is
the first woman to head the Ministry, added.

According to her, the Ministry is responsible for Bulgaria's
image in Europe and across the world. Buchvarova laid a wreath
of flowers at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier. The ceremony
was attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Bulgaria's
Patriarch Neophyte and a few former interior ministers.

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Mihail Mikov also
congratulated the Interior Ministry employees on the occasion of
their professional holiday and wished them to continue fighting
for Bulgaria's honour and dignity, BSP said in a press release
Sunday.

Meanwhile the Trade Union Federation of Interior Ministry
Employees (TUFIME) gave the Ministry leadership an ultimatum
that if they do not start negotiations on the condition of the
Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate (FSCPD) by July 10,
they will ask the Prime Minister to intervene. The trade union
representatives stated their plans at a protest camp in front of
the Parliament building.

If talks on FSCPD's problems do not start by July 10, the trade
union will discontinue dialogue and demand resignations at the
Ministry's high levels.

The largest police trade union, which according to its leaders
has over 6,000 members, is organizing a protest on July 25,
which will be held regardless of the course of negotiations with
the Ministry's leadership.

TUFIME once again demanded the resignation of FSCPD's head
Nikolay Nikolov, showing a declaration of the firefighters'
trade union, which states that the Directorate is currently held
hostage by incompetent administrators. According to the trade
union, the FSCPD has lost over half a million leva in court
cases in 2014, while its Director Nikolay Nikolov has given
verbal orders on how to punish employees.
