Deputy PM Buchvarova, Eurostat Head Radermacher Discuss Integration of State  Administration Registers

Sofia, July 7 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Interior Roumyana Buchvarova conferred on Monday here with
Eurostat Director General Walter Radermacher. The two discussed
the opportunities for Bulgaria to participate in a European
pilot project for integrating data sources, as well as this
country's progress in opening the state administration data
sets, Cabinet's press service said in a press release.

"We strongly welcome yours and your team's work in the field of
opening the administration's data sets and the unification and
standardization of registers," Radermacher said, explaining that
in addition to being useful for citizens and businesses, open
data also contribute to improving the work and quality of
Eurostat and European statistical institutes. He added that this
year Bulgaria has marked exceptional progress in this regard
and is getting close to countries such as Sweden and Denmark,
which are leaders in the field of open data and integration of
information sources.

This gives exceptional opportunities for saving taxpayers'
money, improving the economic and social planning, Eurostat's
head noted. Radermacher highly assessed the efforts made for
increasing the National Statistical Institute's analytical and
methodological capacity, so that it can become a regional
leader. According to him, the need for openness and
interconnectivity of data sets within the EU is ever growing. He
gave as an example one of the most current topics on the EU
agenda - migration and refugees, which calls for an
exceptionally precise, standardized and comprehensive data, so
that informed decisions could be made by the experts and policy
makers on European and national levels.
