Razgrad Hosts Yogurt Fair and Festival of Folk Traditions

Razgrad, Northeastern Bulgaria, July 22 (BTA) - A Yogurt Fair and a concurrent Festival of Folk Traditions and Craft Arts are taking place in Razgrad between July 22 and 24, said Tsvetana Benonova, Head of the Culture, Sport and Tourism Directorate at Razgrad Town Hall.

For the 15th consecutive year Razgrad is bringing together producers and distributors of yogurt, which is a traditional Bulgarian food, as well as folk acts from across the world and around 100 practitioners of craft arts from Bulgaria and abroad. Various cultural events are planned during the festival.

As usual, the first day will see performances on an open-air stage under the motto "The Rhythms of Loudogorie" and a contest to elect the Queen of the Fair, which will proceed under the humorous motto "Tradition Is Not What It Used to Be." Other fun competitions and shows will also be held during the fair.

This year, the event will pay special attention to children. A children's workshop called "Wonders" will be held at the Ethnographic House during the three days of the festival. Kids will also be playing games which were once played by their grandparents. On July 24, young artists will gather at the Dimiter Nenov House Museum to make drawings themed around the Yogurt Fair.

Folk ensembles from Brazil, Colombia, Georgia, Hungary, Martinique, Mexico, Serbia, Turkey, the United States and Bulgaria will stage concerts in the open air. Before the shows, the artists will parade down the streets of Razgrad.

The main idea of the Yogurt Fair and the Festival of Folk Traditions and Craft Arts is to preserve and popularize traditional Bulgarian culture and the ancient technology of making yogurt.
