ABV Party Approves 103 Mayoral Candidates


Sofia, August 1 (BTA) - The ABV party's election campaign chief Roumen Petkov told journalists on Saturday that his party is not likely to support Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova for reelection.

At a meeting earlier in the day, the ABV National Council approved 103 candidates for mayors of municipalities and boroughs who will run in the October local elections. These include 80 candidates nominated by ABV, 17 independent candidates and 6 candidates supported by multi-party coalitions, Petkov said. Declining to comment on ABV's nominee for Sofia mayor, he noted that in many municipalities the party will field its own candidates.

"ABV will not seek to earn dividend from the rifts between other parties and I would not like to comment on whether the Reformist Bloc may fall apart. We are prepared even for extraordinary elections," Petkov said. LI/VE
