GDP Grows 2.2 Per Cent in Second Quarter of 2015 Y/Y

Sofia, August 14 (BTA) - The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 2.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 compared to the like period in the previous year, according to snap estimates the National Statistical Institute released on Friday. The first quarter GDP growth year-on-year was 2 per cent. The increase was 0.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 compared to the first. However, the quarterly GDP growth slowed down, as the quarterly increase in January-March 2015 was 0.9 per cent compared to the last quarter of 2014.

In nominal terms, the GDP in the second quarter was 20.92 billion leva, against 17.14 billion leva for January-March.

End consumption continued to account for the biggest share of the GDP, 78.3 per cent, or 16.38 billion leva. Its relative share decreased but in terms of absolute value, end consumption increased. In the first quarter the GDP share of end consumption stood at 85.5 per cent, or 14.48 billion leva. A foreign trade deficit is reported for the second quarter of 2015.
