No Bulgarian Pilgrims among Hajj Stampede Victims in Saudi Arabia

Sofia, September 25 (BTA) - The Chief Mufti's Office said that no Bulgarians were killed in the stampede at the Saudi town of Mina during the Hajj pilgrimage.

Saudi officials said that 717 pilgrims were killed and 863 were injured.

All 228 Bulgarian pilgrims travelling on arrangements of the Chief Mufti's Office made the 20-km trek to Mecca in good health. The Bulgarian pilgrims were on the road early in the morning, just when the incident in which hundreds were killed occurred. However, they were unharmed because the organizers chose the longer but safer route, the press release said.
