Prosecuting Magistracy Will Propose to Have Ataka Leader Volen Siderov's, MP Dessislav Choukolov's
Immunities Lifted over Incident
Sofia, October 10 (BTA) - A proposal will be drafted for lifting
the immunities of MPs, which will be submitted to the
Prosecutor General, said here on Saturday Sofia City Prosecutor
Hristo Dinev during a news conference following a Friday night
incident in central Sofia, which involved MPs.
A 112 call was made at around 10:30 pm on Friday, alerting about
MPs being obviously intoxicated and displaying arrogant and
rough behaviour towards the owners of a cigarettes and alcohol
shop. The MPs told the police officers, who arrived at the
scene, that the shop is selling contraband cigarettes and drugs,
the Interior Ministry said in a press release Saturday.
Efforts were made to put an end to the scandal, however, the
verbal attacks continued. Economic police officers have searched
the shop and did not find any illegal substances or unregulated
goods.
Answering a journalist's question, Dinev explained that the MPs
in question are Ataka leader Volen Siderov and his fellow MP
Dessislav Choukolov, adding that some 15 witnesses have been
questioned about the Friday night incident. The court has
appointed forensic examinations. The evidence gathered so far
indicates that persons with immunity have committed hooliganism
with exceptional disregard for the law enforcement bodies, whose
duty was to maintain public order, Dinev explained.
A pre-trial proceeding has been launched, witnesses are still
being questioned and a report will be presented to the
prosecuting magistracy once the evidence is collected, the
Interior Ministry explained.
