VMZ Sopot Ordnance Plant Is Expanding

Sopot, Central Bulgaria, December 19 (BTA) - The VMZ Sopot ordnance plant is operating at full capacity, expanding its manufacturing facilities and employing additional workers, Deputy Economy Minister Lyuben Petrov said in the southern city of Plovdiv on Friday, speaking at a meeting with business people active in the region. Petrov expects that VMZ's staff will soon reach 3,000 people.

"The contracts signed so far ensure steady operation of the plant. As its old sections are restarted, we hope it is able to meet the increasing orders from businesses," he said. Experts will come to VMZ in a few months to phase in new technology in the two old sections that are being restored, he said.

While the management is trying to avoid wage delays, it is also keen on improving working discipline, safety at work and security protection, Petrov said.

It is hoped that after the two sections are restarted, VMZ will be able to quickly pay its liabilities to the central and local government and the National Social Security Institute.
