Foreign Ministry Expresses Deep Concern over News of North Korea's Hydrogen Bomb Test
Sofia, January 6 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry is deeply concerned by the news that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has carried out a nuclear test on January 6, reads a position of the ministry released on Wednesday.
"If the statement is confirmed, a fourth nuclear test would be a drastic violation of resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013) and 2094 (2013) of the UN Security Council and the safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Such a provocative act will inevitably lead to further tensions in the region and would seriously hamper efforts to find a solution to the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula," the position reads.
The Foreign Ministry once again urges North Korea to cease its nuclear and ballistic program, and to engage constructively with the international community to achieve peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
