President Participates in Interreligious Dialogue in Rome

Rome, January 27 (BTA Exclusive by Hristo Petrov) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev attended an international forum in Rome (January 27-28) about the challenges which radicalization and extremism pose to interreligious dialogue. The forum was unveiled at the Italian Senate on Wednesday. It is organized by the Azerbaijani organization, Nizami Ganjavi International Center, and the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) under the auspices of the Italian Senate.

Addressing the participants, Bulgarian President Plevneliev voiced concern over the radicalization on a religious basis
and the resulting escalation of international terrorism. The head of State stressed the centuries-long peaceful co-habitation of different religious faiths in Bulgaria due to which there is not a single Bulgarian citizen involved in terrorism today.

Plevneliev also spoke of the lessons of history, the Holocaust and Bulgaria contribution to the saving of the Jews during WWII as well as the all-European approach to the fight against Islamic terrorism.

Later in the day President Plevneliev had a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and then attended a reception, given by Mattarella for the participants.

The forum continues on January 28, when former president Peter Stoyanov expected to deliver a speech.
