Bulgarian Exports to EU Up 7.9% in 2015

Sofia, March 11 (BTA) - In 2015, Bulgaria's exports to the EU grew by 7.9 per cent compared to a year earlier and amounted to 29.1 billion leva, preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute show. In December 2015, the exports to EU countries increased by 5.8 per cent year-on-year and reached 2,174 billion leva, while the imports grew by 1.3 per cent and amounted to 2,861 billion leva (at CIF prices).

In 2015, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU was negative and added up to 4,174.5 million leva. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the trade balance was also negative and amounted to 1,952.7 million leva.

Trade with Third Countries

In January 2016, Bulgarian exports to third countries grew by 6.3 per cent year-on-year to 1,164 billion leva, while the imports dropped by 17.8 per cent and amounted to 1,203 billion leva (at CIF prices). The largest amount of goods imported from non-EU countries originated from the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Ukraine.

In January 2016, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and added up to 39.1 million leva. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was positive and amounted to 39.7 million leva.

January 2016 Total Exports

In January 2016, the total value of all exported goods (both to third countries and EU) amounted to 3,424 billion leva, which is an increase by 1 per cent compared to January 2015. The total value of all imported goods added up to 3,464 billion leva (at CIF prices), down by 8.3 per cent from the same month of 2015.

This January, the total foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) was negative and added up to 39.8 million leva, or by 345.7 million leva less compared to January 2015. The total trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was positive and amounted to 152 million leva.
