President Plevneliev: Bulgaria Must Look Ahead, Formulate New National Goals

Sofia, March 18 (BTA) - In an address Friday to Parliament in connection with his month-long consultations with parliamentary forces, President Rosen Plevneliev said that Bulgaria must look ahead and formulate new national goals. The address was broadcast live on the national television and radio.

Plevneliev said that the new national goals may include the creation of a socially-responsible economy, eradication of poverty and social exclusion, targeted support for underdeveloped regions, speeding up the modernization of the country, full-fledged membership in the border-free Schengen Area, entry in the Eurozone, activation of a European energy union on the Balkans.

The head of State urged for launching work on the Bulgaria 2030 development programme.

Plevneliev thanked the parties for the constructive dialogue during the political consultations. He said that the consultations have become a working platform for debate among the institutions.

"We must demonstrate that irrespective of the ideological differences, we are able to stand united in respect of the national priorities, to work consistently and show continuity," Plevneliev said. LY/ZH
