ABV Party Proposes Reconsideration of Political Declaration in Government's Support

Veliko Turnovo, North Central Bulgaria, March 20 (BTA) - The ABV party proposes that the political declaration in support of the Government be reconsidered, ABV member and Labour and Social Policy Minister Ivailo Kalfin said here Sunday. He took part in a debate on "The President: Guarantee or Risk for the National Security".

Kalfin specified that there are new moments which should be included in the agreement's policies. "Back then, we were not talking about refugees, tension along our border, including between Turkey and Russia, or the processes in the EU," he noted. Kalfin added that such a proposal causes no drama and that by the end of next week, each of the partners which has signed the agreement and has a view on new priorities, can submit these for discussion.

ABV leader and ex-president Georgi Purvanov told journalists that the Development Council under the Deputy PM for Coalition Policy is becoming more effective on ABV's initiative. He added that the ruling coalition itself should become better working.

In Purvanov's words, there are ministers who are certainly harmful, noting that the current Defence Minister regularly forms threats to the country's security and is the weakest and most harmful defence minister in the new Bulgarian history. Purvanov said that ABV also has very serious remarks and recommendations to make in the sphere of health care.

The ABV leader recalled that Art. 100 of the Constitution stipulates that the head of State is the Supreme Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and that a strong State means a strong, modern and efficient army. According to him, defence should become a budget priority but the possible reinstatement of the obligatory military service is expensive and ungrounded.

He also told journalists that the status quo in Parliament is changing and this should lead to changes in the interrelation within the Government. According to him, there is nothing fatal in making cadre changes in the Cabinet.
