Border Police to Build CCTV System at Bulgaria-Serbian Border

Sofia, March 30 (BTA) - The Border Police plans to build a CCTV system at the Bulgarian-Serbian border in the area of the town of Dragoman. The system will be similar to the one built at the Bulgarian-Turkish border which covers the strip from Lessovo to Malko Turnovo, Southern Bulgaria, and cost 16.6 million euro.

The documentation for the public procurement for the CCTV system is expected to be ready by the end of the year, and the contract will be awarded at the start of 2017. The idea to build the system was discussed during a presentation of the results achieved from the implementation of projects funded by the EU's External Borders Fund.

The Border Police reported that the greater migratory pressure at the moment  is outbound, which justifies the building of such a system.

It was also reported that 6.8 million euro were invested in the Border Police air base in Sofia. More than one million passengers passed via the electronic desks for scanning of chip-equipped foreign travel passports at the airports of Varna, Sofia and Bourgas in the past several years, the Border Police reported.
