Integrated Charity Platform Raises LV 6 Mln in Eight Years

Sofia, April 28 (BTA) - An integrated platform for charitable giving for various causes has helped raise just under 6 million leva in the eight years of its existence, said Krassimira Velichkova, director of the Bulgarian Charity Forum.

The platform, DMS, operates through the 17 777 line where people text to make a donation for a cause of their choice. Regular monthly or other donations are also an option.

In 2015 alone, the platform raised 988,812 leva for 165 campaigns, including 76 by individuals, 74 by organizations and 15 by others.

Traditionally, individual campaigns attract more support than organizations: 59 per cent of all donor texts were for individuals and the bulk of it is for medical treatment.
 
In another trend, organizations manage to mobilize more regular monthly donations.

On-line donations tend to increase in amount, with the smallest being of 5 leva and the majority of donations of 20-50 leva. There were several donations of amounts ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 leva. The biggest charitable givings came from credit cards through a virtual POS terminal.
