Presidential Candidate George Ganchev Unveils Political Programme
Stara Zagora, Southern Bulgaria, May 16 (BTA) - The tandem of George Ganchev and Kolyo Paramov, who will run, respectively, for president and vice president of Bulgaria in this autumn's elections, unveiled their political programme to journalists in the BTA Press Club in Stara Zagora on Sunday.
Ganchev is a former MP and leader of the Bulgarian Business Bloc, a parliamentary party in the 1990s. He placed third in the presidential race in 1992 on 17 per cent of the vote, and third again in 1996 on 22 per cent. Paramov is a financier.
Ganchev said that he and his running mate will guarantee the independence of the three branches of government. Other highlights in their 10-item programme are to build strong armed forces and encourage young Bulgarian specialists to return from abroad.
"I have tried for years to reconcile America and Russia because these two countries should guarantee peace," Ganchev said. He added that he paid a working visit to Moscow recently.
Paramov predicted that he and Ganchev will be the big surprise at the upcoming presidential elections. He said Bulgarian politics need a major transformation.
Ganchev and Paramov were the first duo to announce their bid for the presidency.
