EC Reports of Bulgaria's Significant Progress in EU Law Implementation

Brussels, July 15 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The European Commission (EC) Friday presented its regular Single Market Scoreboard, which notes Bulgaria's significant progress in the implementation of EU law.

Bulgaria ranks first among the 13 Member States with improvement achieved in the transposition of EU law, and its transposition deficit (0.6 per cent) is very close to the proposed target of 0.5 per cent.

Bulgaria achieved significant progress in all of the monitored indicators. According to the data, Bulgaria is above the EU average level in terms of resolving the infringement procedures launched against the country.

The number of new cases against Bulgaria has remained unchanged over the last years. The total number of pending infringement cases has not changed in the last five years, the report shows.

The number of launched infringement procedures in their first phase has been decreasing since 2013, standing at 62 in 2011, at 65 in 2012, and at 44 in 2013 and 2014 alike.

The number of pending cases against Bulgaria has been increasing since 2012 and currently stands at 50. The year 2014 saw the highest number of newly launched procedures for untimely implementation of EU law in the national legislation, and the main part of these cases concerned the environment.
